POFCI first travled to Louisiana to help our fellow officers impacted by Hurricane Katrina in September 2005. Over the last three years we have built relationships with many officers within the New Orleans Police Department, from upper management to line staff. Last year we sent 8 teams over 8 weeks to rebuild homes for many of these officers.

Many of our volunteers were from Northern California, but others came from as far as Washington State and New Mexico. They were from law enforcement, fire, chaplains, and many other backgrounds. Some had construction experience, while the rest of us learned on the job. We went to serve; but found that we were in fact the ones who were served and changed in a very positive way. There still exists a real opportunity in New Orleans to rebuild far more than just homes. We have seen many lives changed in those who have gone to serve, and those that we have been blessed to minister to; and we are looking forward to going back.

This really is a trip you will never forget. This trip is not just for cops; and not just for Christians. It is for anyone who would like to serve others and let these officers know that our Nation, and the Law Enforcement Family still cares for them. Please help us to get the word out to every prospective volunteer, and please pray for this project and a continued recovery for the people in the Gulf Region. While many things have improved there, much has yet to be done. Many officers there put their lives on the line every day to serve others, and they need to know that their struggle towards recovery and restoration is not forgotten. A little of our time can make such a huge difference in the lives of others. |
If you are not able to physically go and serve, would you consider praying for us and supporting us financially. Many of our volunteers take time off from their jobs to serve, but cannot afford the airfare and other minimal costs. We make every effort to keep the costs down by using the resources provided by the Katrina Disaster Response Team. Every dollar of you donation goes directly to supporting this project. POFCI is a non-profit orgainization under 501(C)(3). Your donation is fully tax deductible. If you know of anyone, or any organization that would like to help sponbsor us, please let us know.

Beginning on October 5, 2008, we will be sending teams for one week at a time over several months or as long as we have volunteers to go. Travel dates are flexible to meet your schedule. Teams travel to New Orleans on a Sunday; stay at a Civil War era home in Central City that has been converted into a dormitory; rebuild homes for the officers Monday through Friday; have a "Free day" to tour New Orleans on Saturday; then fly home Saturday afternoon or evening. |

The Katrina Disaster Response Team has worked withover 10,000 volunteers to rebuild hundreds of homes in the Louisiana area. They have extensive resources and facilities to support volunteers who are willing to give one week of their time to serve others. They have agreed to continue in our partnership with them to minister to the officers of the NOPD in rebuilding homes and lives.
